FEBRUARY 6, 1981: Today, 35 years ago, a group of 27 armed men attacked Kabamba Military training school in western Uganda, captured arms and started the National Resistance War.

The war climaxed with the NRA capturing power on January 26, 1986, and the NRM government has been in power since.

Today, the army marks the day - Tarehe Sita - with celebrations at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Among the activities on Tarehe Sita days is awarding of awards and memorial to former heroes.

Tribute today was made to the memory of Prof. Yusuf Lule, the first head of the NRM.
