UGANDA: President Museveni's election win challenged in court

#BREAKING NEWS 5.08pm March 1, 2016  Kampala, Uganda: Candidate Amama Mbabazi's lawyers have just filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the 2016 Uganda Election results. 

Earlier, Forum For Democratic Change FDC announced that they have failed to file their petition. They called for a press briefing Wednesday 11am.

FDC, in a tweet, said "One electoral petition from any candidate is sufficient to challenge the 2016 election and Mr. @AmamaMbabazi MP has successfully done so."

TODAY: Counsels Severino Twinobusingye and Davis Akampurira arrived just after 5pm, closing time for the court, and filed  presidential petition at Supreme Court.  The respondents are Yoweri Museveni, the Attornye General and the Electoral Commission.

According to the Presidential Elections Act, court should decide in 30 days on the validity of the petition challenging the results.




The Electoral Commission ten days ago announced Museveni winner with 60% of the vote. (click here for full story)
