Entebbe, Uganda | LOUIS JADWONG | Only seven golfers have won three or more titles in the 77-year history of the Uganda Amateur Golf Open.
The most senior of Uganda's veteran golfers Emmanuel Basaliza, 93, has probably played against some of them.
He was at the Entebbe Golf Course on the penultimate day of the Uganda Open Friday, and walked out to congratulate Ronald Otile for an outstanding display of golf on the final of 54 holes.
In three rounds, Otile, 23, carded an impressive 67, 73 and 71 over the first 54 holes at the par-71 Entebbe course.
After his final putt for birdie on the "Dan Nkata" hole 18, Basaliza walked onto the course in appreciation. He offered a handshake that probably is 'the sign' the Uganda Open was waiting for, before it can baptise a 8th, 3-time winner on Saturday.

The small group of three time winners in the Amateur Open are H. Davidson (1932-3,1937), Mike Johnson (1960-61-62), John Higginson (1963-4-6), legend Sadi Onito ( 1976 to 1978, 83, 1985 to 1988, 1991, 1994-1996), Juma Jaffer (1981-82, 1992), Steven Birungi (1997-1999) and Deo Akope (2000-2002)
Two-time winner Otile holds a 3 stroke lead going into the final 18 holes, and another par or below par performance looks good enough to secure him a historic third title.
After his 67 on day one, Otile had promised that his best is yet to come.
"The best is yet to come," he said, " It should have been 7-under today (Wednesday)."
He has not matched his day one high since, and those seeking an upset on day four will pray he doesn't.
Top contenders at the Castle Lite sponsored 77th Uganda Amateur Open, all seeking a first ever title, include Kenyans John Karichu and Edwin Mudanyi and young Ugandans Herman Mutebi, Daniel Mutebi and Joseph Cwinyaai.
Day three's best score came from outside the pressure group, with Joel Basalaine producing a stunning 4-under 67. That's the kind of score those close to Otile will have to produce to realise their dreams - that is Mutebi and Karichu who tee off in the pressure group at 1.22pm. (full draw bottom)
The four-day 72 hole Amateur Open is Ugandan golf's most prestigious title. This year's event has come a week after the Ladies Open that was won by Tanzanian Neema Olomi, and a week before the professional Open.
